Opened in 2001 Rosshall Academy stands proudly on Crookston Road. It’s a testament to Glasgow’s commitment to education. Rosshall wasn’t built from scratch. It was formed by merging two existing schools Penilee and Crookston Castle. This created a larger more comprehensive secondary school. The new building opened in 2002. Unfortunately not all was well.

Less than a year later Rosshall Academy found itself at the center of a controversy. Staff reported various health issues. They blamed the school’s design. Classrooms were too small. Ventilation was poor. Teachers experienced headaches throat problems and eye infections. Experts linked these issues to the building’s design. Low ceilings trapped pollutants near breathing level. This was a classic case of sick building syndrome. The incident highlighted the importance of proper building design in schools. It impacted the health and well-being of staff.

Rosshall Academy’s history isn’t without its tragedies. In 2012 a 14-year-old pupil Euan Craig died after an assault in the school gymnasium. Another 14-year-old student was responsible. The incident shocked the community. It led to a conviction and sentencing. The tragic events served as a reminder of the challenges faced in maintaining a safe and supportive school environment. Despite these difficulties Rosshall Academy continues to serve the Crookston community. It provides education for hundreds of students. The school strives to create a positive learning experience. It works hard to prevent future incidents. Rosshall is more than just a building. It represents the ongoing commitment to education and community well-being in Glasgow. The school embodies both triumph and tragedy. It reminds us of the importance of a safe and healthy learning environment for all.
