You’re looking at what was once Roskilde Cathedral School, founded way back in 1020, a time when Vikings still roamed the seas. Roskilde Gymnasium stands on the grounds outside Roskilde Cathedral, its grand main building a mix of Neoclassical style and medieval elements, a powerful reminder of the past. The original school couldn’t accommodate its growing number of students, so in the 1960s it moved to a new site. Roskilde Municipality, however, kept the old buildings and in 1979, it was taken over by Copenhagen County, becoming Roskilde Amtsgymnasium. After the Danish Municipal Reform in 2007, the school was taken over again and renamed Roskilde Gymnasium. Today, it boasts a large cafeteria, state-of-the-art sports facilities, and a library staffed with knowledgeable professionals. It’s even got two cinemas!
