Founded in 1840 Roseville is a city in Macomb County Michigan. It’s a northern suburb of Detroit about 13 miles northeast of the city center. Roseville was named after William Rose’s father a veteran of the War of 1812. The first post office opened here in 1840.

Roseville wasn’t always a city. It started as a village. It officially became a village in 1926. A new municipal building opened in 1929 at Gratiot Avenue and Meier Road. This building replaced an older one from 1886. This early building housed various city departments. Eventually separate police and fire stations were built in the 1960s. City offices stayed in the original building until 1974.

Roseville’s history includes aviation. Michigan’s first commercial airport Packard Field opened in 1919. It was near Gratiot Avenue and Frazho Road. It was renamed Gratiot Airport then Hartung Field. Today the Eastgate Shopping Center stands on the site.

The city also boasts a library. The Erin-Roseville Library began in 1936. It started small in one room of the municipal building. It expanded to its own building in the 1960s and then moved into the new civic center in 1974. By 2010 it circulated about 250000 items annually.

The Macomb Mall opened in 1964. It’s a popular shopping center even today. It’s west of Gratiot and Masonic. Roseville became a city in 1958 incorporating the village and remaining parts of Erin Township. Roseville is a blend of residential areas manufacturing and retail businesses. Major roads like I-94 and I-696 run through Roseville. Gratiot Avenue and Groesbeck Highway also provide access. Roseville has many shops and restaurants. It also has well-maintained parks that host various events. The city offers a mix of nationally known chains and local favorites for dining. Roseville provides a thriving community with a rich past and bright future.
