Did you know that Rosenlunds herrgård was once at the forefront of agricultural innovation? This beautiful manor stands as a testament to a time when Jönköping was blossoming. Rosenlunds herrgård is more than just a building. It is a portal to the past.

Rosenlunds herrgård was built in 1788. Gustaf Mauritz Posse constructed it in the Gustavian style. Posse was a judge and very interested in agriculture. His wife Gertrud Ehrenpreus was the daughter of the Huskvarna weapons factory owner. Posse was part of a group. This group developed modern agricultural properties near Jönköping. Rosenlunds herrgård was considered a model farm. People paid attention to it.

The Posse family owned Rosenlunds herrgård until 1894. Deputy district chief Gustaf Lindman bought it then. In 1936, Jönköping municipality took over the building. From 2015 to 2017, the manor was carefully recreated step by step. Today Rosenlunds herrgård hosts civil marriages and naming ceremonies. It also holds cultural events and internal conferences.

Beyond the manor lies the stunning Rose Garden. In 1820, it was described as nestling amidst beautiful plants and gardens. A school garden once existed here. The Rose Garden was added in the late 1970s. A perennial garden followed in 1993. Landscape architect Björn Kalin gave the Rose Garden a makeover between 1997 and 1999. Enhancements continued into 2020.

The Rose Garden boasts around 600 rose varieties. Old-fashioned roses grow alongside newer shrub roses. Climbing roses and wild roses are also present. Each rose variety has a name sign. The clone archive for Småland cultivated roses is complete. This archive includes 36 selected varieties.

Beech and hickory trees surround the manor. Walnut and magnolia trees also grow here. Rhododendron bushes line the path to Lake Vättern. Ancient oaks stand guard.

The waterlily pond is a highlight of the perennial gardens. Peonies line the footpaths. A clematis area displays custom-made trellises. Summer flowers adorn the area with Mediterranean plants. A bronze sculpture called Sun Singer stands in the Rose Garden. Sonja Katzin created it.

Rosenlunds herrgård offers guided tours. These tours cover the Rose Garden’s history. They explore the Posse family’s legacy. They reveal the secrets of the 18th-century Gustavian park.
