Nestled in the green south of Offenbach, Rosenhöhe offers a unique blend of city life and tranquil living. Rosenhöhe is one of Offenbach’s 21 boroughs. Until 2019, it was among the nine officially recognized boroughs.

Rosenhöhe is the city’s southernmost borough. It is also the second smallest by population. But it became the second largest by area after Bieber in July 2019. This was when the city council approved a bill to fully divide the city’s area into boroughs.

Let me paint you a picture of Rosenhöhe’s past. After World War II, Rosenhöhe emerged as a small residential area. It was built in the Hinterwald. Locals commonly call the forest in the southwest of Offenbach this name. Before Offenbach expanded southward, a tarpit occupied the area around Rosenhöhe.

Interestingly, several tumuli dot the landscape here. These burial mounds date back to the Iron Age. They tell tales of early human settlements in this region. During World War II, lights flickered in the forest near Rosenhöhe. These lights aimed to divert allied air raid attacks. The goal was to protect major manufacturing companies in the city. Today, bomb craters serve as stark reminders of this history.

Ever wondered about the name “Rosenhöhe”? It translates to “Rose Heights” or “Rose Hill”. The true origin of the name remains a mystery.

Sport and recreation thrive in Rosenhöhe. The city’s only remaining public swimming pool is here. One of the largest municipal sports grounds is also located here. Tennis reigns supreme after football. You can find twenty tennis courts operated by different clubs. The Tennis Association of the State of Hesse has its headquarters here. Other sports include athletics, rugby, and beach volleyball. Locals enjoy biking, hiking, and outdoor activities in the forests. This is especially popular in the summer.

Feeling hungry? Rosenhöhe boasts a diverse culinary scene. Steakhouses mingle with traditional apple cider pubs. The Rhine-Main region is famous for these pubs. Many restaurants correlate to the number of sports clubs here. Traditionally, every club hosts some kind of restauration for its members. These restaurants or pubs are generally open to the public. A notable establishment is Gasthaus Wildhof. It is a traditional inn along Dietzenbacher Straße. It has been around since the 1700s.

Education is also a key aspect of Rosenhöhe. Edith-Stein-Schule offers all levels of secondary education. Marianne-Frostig-Schule focuses on Montessori education. Its school children can use a large part of the Hinterwald forest as their school yard. Oswald-von-Nell-Breuning-Schule is a private school for children with special needs.

Rosenhöhe is easily accessible via Dietzenbacher Straße and Gravenbruchweg. Autobahn A3 traverses the Hinterwald forest. Bus routes 104 and 105 connect Rosenhöhe to the city.

Lastly, the public utility works operate an incineration plant here. This plant generates district heat and electricity annually. Rosenhöhe is more than just a borough. It is a community rich in history and surrounded by nature.
