Picture the year 1281. Rosellerheide then known as Roselden was first mentioned in official records. A humble village it started its long journey through history. Rosellerheide nestled in a valley is bordered by the Gohrer Berg a remnant of the ancient Rhine River. To the south and north are marshy areas formed by the Norfbach and the Schwarzer Graben.
Rosellerheide’s story is rich with historical events. In 1284 a knight named Gozsalcus erected Neuenberg Castle on the western edge. This impressive motte castle played a pivotal role. It was destroyed in 1288 then rebuilt around 1300. In 1323 Rosellerheide became property of the Elector of Cologne. By 1326 Neuenberg Castle was a Cologne administrative center.
Today only brick remains of the castle and its outer bailey survive at Gut Neuenberg. Rosellerheide suffered significant damage in 1475 during Charles the Bold’s siege of Neuss. Further destruction followed during the Thirty Years’ War. French troops occupied Rosellerheide and Neuenbaum in 1794 placing them under the Norf mayoralty. In 1815 Rosellerheide and Neuenbaum became part of the municipality of Rosellen in the Norf district. The Norf district changed to Amt Norf in 1927. Finally Rosellerheide was incorporated into Neuss in 1975.
The area’s population grew steadily over the years. The Schützenbruderschaft St Peter und Paul Rosellerheide-Neuenbaum 1879 e V celebrated its 125th anniversary in 2004. The Tambourkorps Rosellerheide marked its centenary in 2006. The St Martins Komitee Rosellerheide Neuenbaum annually distributes treats to children on November 11th. The Männergesangsverein Haiderösche celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2011.
Rosellerheide boasts the Trinitatiskirche an Evangelical church built in 1984. Its three semi-circular buildings surround a forecourt. The Marienkapelle in Neuenbaum celebrates its 125th anniversary in 2011. Rosellerheide’s close proximity to the A57 makes it easily accessible. Bus lines 841 and 874 connect it to Neuss city center. Line 841 also goes to Allerheiligen S-Bahn station providing connections to Düsseldorf and Cologne.
