Rompetrol made its first major acquisition. This was the Vega refinery. It is the longest unit in operation and sits in Ploiești, Prahova. Later, Rompetrol opened its first retail subsidiaries abroad. These were Rompetrol Moldova and Rompetrol Bulgaria.
Rompetrol Well Services has been around for 70 years since 1951. The company provides specialized services for oil companies. They also serve drilling contractors in Central and Eastern Europe and Central Asia. These countries include Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary, Turkey, and Greece. Also Azerbaijan, Jordan, Iraq, Israel, and Kazakhstan.
In 1990, the company became Petros Ploiesti. It was listed on the Bucharest Stock Exchange starting in 1998. In 2000, Rompetrol Group took over the majority stake. In 2001, it changed the company’s name to Rompetrol Well Services.
