Have you ever felt the rush of adrenaline during a nail-biting basketball game? If you have, then you know the feeling of being drawn to the edge of your seat, excited and unsure of what will happen next. This is the atmosphere that the Romema sport center in Haifa conjures. At the center, the roar of the crowd, the squeak of sneakers on the polished floor, and the satisfying swoosh of the basketball through the net are sounds that can only be experienced in a place like the Romema sport center. This arena, the largest indoor sports stadium in Haifa and the northern region, more than just a place to play ball; it pulsates with the energy of Haifa’s community. The Romema Arena, which opened in 1976, is a massive space with a seating capacity of up to 5,000 spectators. It serves as a training and home ground for the Maccabi Haifa basketball team and several other professional teams.
The arena underwent significant renovation during 2011 and 2012, adding an atrium, cafes, and a more modern look to the hall. After this renovation, the arena became the site of the Israeli Basketball Cup Final where Maccabi Haifa B.C. won their first Championship title in club history. Today, the Romema Arena is not only home to the Maccabi Haifa basketball team but also a venue for other sports, entertainment events, conventions, and major events. It is a place where you can see the energy of the city of Haifa on full display.
