This 26-acre haven in Southwest Detroit had undergone a transformation, a $1.65 million dollar rebirth thanks to the combined efforts of the city, the Detroit Pistons, and the Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Foundation. Romanowski Park, a community cornerstone, had long suffered from neglect. The wear and tear of countless games and gatherings had taken its toll. But the community’s love for Romanowski Park never wavered. In 2018, their voices ignited a spark, igniting the revitalization project. The once-cracked asphalt paths now formed a smooth, welcoming perimeter walking loop. New playground equipment beckoned children to climb and swing, while families gathered at the freshly painted picnic tables and benches. The old tennis courts, once a testament to forgotten matches, had been transformed into vibrant futsal and pickleball courts. This upgrade was made possible by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, breathing fresh air into the park’s recreational offerings. Romanowski Park, now boasting an impressive 18-hoop basketball court, was a testament to the power of partnership. The Detroit Pistons had generously funded the resurfacing of this court, located on the St. John Avenue side of the park. The Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Foundation contributed as well, supporting improvements to the restrooms and soccer fields. Romanowski Park, a place where community dreams took flight, was once again ready to host laughter, competition, and cherished moments. The revitalized Romanowski Park stands as a beacon of hope.
