Across the sprawling 59.9 acres of Rohr Park, a symphony of activities unfolds. Rohr Park isn’t just a park. It’s a vibrant tapestry woven with threads of history, recreation, and community spirit. This park, gifted to the city by the generous Mr. Fred H. Rohr, rests on the Sweetwater River floodplain. The development of Rohr Park ingeniously blends the historical Rohr Manor Building with modern amenities. You’ll find picnic areas, gazebos, creative play areas, and even a model railroad track installed by the Chula Vista Live Steamers, Inc. Rohr Park truly offers something for everyone. Sports enthusiasts can enjoy baseball and soccer fields, basketball courts, and a walking/jogging trail. Families can gather at one of the two playgrounds. One playground boasts spinners, climbing structures, a thrilling zipline, and a large slide. The other playground caters to both bigger kids and toddlers. It features a play structure, a tot lot, a spring bouncer, and swings. For those seeking a unique experience, the Chula Vista Live Steamers operate a railroad near the green playground. Every second weekend of the month, from 12-3 p.m., you can enjoy a free train ride. And in 2022, a new adult fitness court was added near the basketball courts, offering a variety of exercise stations. Looking to relax? Rohr Park has numerous picnic areas and gazebos available for reservation. Or perhaps you’d prefer to bring your furry friend to the dog park, which opened in 2021. With separate areas for large and small dogs, agility equipment, and water fountains, it’s a canine paradise. Rohr Park even welcomes alcohol (no kegs or glass, please). This makes it a popular spot for parties and gatherings. From its historical manor to its modern amenities, Rohr Park is a testament to the vision of its benefactor, Mr. Fred H. Rohr. It is a place where community thrives and memories are made.
