“Did someone get the license plate?” The question, frantic and laced with adrenaline, hung in the air above the Rodeway Inn parking lot. Sirens wailed in the distance, getting closer with every passing second. It was a chaotic scene, the quiet of the evening shattered by the sharp crackle of gunfire. The Rodeway Inn on Sherwood Lane, usually a place for weary travelers to rest their heads, became an unwilling stage for a violent act. It all started with an argument, a dispute in the parking lot that quickly escalated. A man, seated in his truck, found himself on the receiving end of another man’s rage. The aggressor, perched on the second floor of the Rodeway Inn, retreated into a room momentarily before returning with a rifle. Shots rang out, piercing the night, the truck and the victim struck multiple times. The victim, desperately trying to escape, managed to get behind the wheel and start the engine. But his escape was short lived as he lost consciousness from his injuries. The assailant, taking advantage of the chaos, fled the scene in an unknown vehicle, leaving behind a trail of questions and fear. The Rodeway Inn, a silent witness to the events, stood bathed in the red and blue glow of approaching emergency vehicles.
