A haven of peace nestled in South Denver. That’s the Rocky Mountain Miracle Center. This unassuming building at 1939 S Monroe Street has a rich and surprising history. It wasn’t always dedicated to A Course in Miracles.
The Rocky Mountain Miracle Center wasn’t always a center for spiritual growth. It began its life in 1945. It was then known as “The Church of Practical Religion”. Orlando Wanvig was its first minister. You can still see a plaque commemorating him near the entrance. The building’s identity shifted over the decades. It became “The Institute of Religious Science” then “The Church of Christianity” and finally “The Divine Science Church of Truth”. These constant changes reflect a community searching for its true purpose.
In 1988 David Morrissey became the minister. Membership was declining. In a bold move he introduced A Course in Miracles. This proved incredibly popular. More people attended his classes than traditional Sunday services. By 1999 only six members remained. The board decided on another name change. They officially became The Rocky Mountain Miracle Center. This marked a complete shift in focus. The center blossomed. Today it boasts nearly 100 members. A testament to the power of forgiveness and spiritual awakening as taught in A Course in Miracles.
