Have you ever felt the warmth of a welcoming community? Rock of Age Missionary Baptist Church in Houston is more than just a building. It’s a vibrant hub of faith and fellowship. Rock of Age Missionary Baptist Church began its journey in a humble setting. In 1950 Reverend Thomas H Wade Sr opened its doors in Old Lycem Hall. Only two members joined him his wife and son. Despite the modest start the church was destined for greatness. Its purpose was clear to reach out to the underserved. It aimed to reclaim those lost to Christ and comfort the disheartened. Rock of Age Missionary Baptist Church thrived under Reverend Wade’s leadership. It eventually moved to a larger space at 1642 S 15th Avenue in Maywood. After Reverend Wade passed away Reverend Marvin E Wiley took the reins. He brought a youthful energy and vision. The church experienced phenomenal growth. A multi-million dollar edifice was constructed in 1995 at the original location. Rock of Age Missionary Baptist Church became a beacon of hope. It served the spiritual emotional financial physical and social needs of the community. Under Pastor Wiley’s guidance membership soared from 400 to over 4000. Vision of Restoration Inc a 501c3 organization was founded. It aimed to restore the lives of residents in Maywood and surrounding areas. In 2003 the ministry expanded to include Saturday night services in Bolingbrook Illinois. This served the needs of members and residents in western suburban Chicago. The T H Wade Foundation Center a four-level multi-million dollar facility opened in 2004. This 40000 square foot facility provided additional resources for training education and businesses. Today Rock of Age Missionary Baptist Church continues its mission. It serves as a testament to faith perseverance and community.
