Officer Venable, a dedicated member of the New York City Transit Police, was tragically killed in the line of duty in 1987. He was only 35 years old, with a young daughter and loving parents. His death was a devastating blow to his family and the city he served. He was responding to a call about armed men in an abandoned building when he was shot. He died three hours later.
