Twenty-nine acres of green. That’s Riverside Park. Imagine a place where the hustle of Salt Lake City fades into a gentle whisper. That’s Riverside Park.

Riverside Park isn’t just a park. It’s a living history book. It started small. On July 12 1912 Salt Lake City bought 21 acres for $8400. That was the humble beginning of this urban oasis.

Over the years Riverside Park grew. Two tennis courts and a restroom appeared in 1953. A park caretaker’s home followed a year later. More tennis courts baseball fields a pavilion and even horseshoe pits came along soon after. The Rose Park Lions Club even dedicated a pavilion in 1957. Their contribution remains a testament to community spirit.

The park’s transformation wasn’t always smooth. A master plan from 1986 outlined phases of improvement. New playgrounds parking lots and an automatic sprinkler system were eventually added. The park continued to change. A new restroom an accessible playground a half-court basketball court and improvements to the east baseball field joined the mix.

In 2012 a unique event took place. Salt Lake City firefighters police officers and park staff planted 151 trees. Gratitude Grove is a living memorial to public safety officers. Their dedication protects Salt Lake City citizens.

Riverside Park is more than just sports fields and playgrounds. It’s a place of community growth. It’s a place of quiet reflection amidst city life. It’s a place to walk run and simply be. So take a moment. Breathe in the fresh air. Embrace the peace. You are in Riverside Park.
