River of life Church

In 1997, a small group of friends gathered under the leadership of PJ and Ashleigh Smyth. This marked the humble beginnings of the River of life Church. River of Life started as a Sunday evening meeting at St. John’s Preparatory School. Within six months, this vibrant community blossomed to over 150 members. By 2001, the River of life Church had tripled in size, necessitating a morning service. They affiliated with Newfrontiers, a global network of churches. This same year, a unique opportunity arose. The River of life Church was offered a space in Eastlea. This allowed them to maintain their growing congregation in Mount Pleasant and simultaneously establish a new branch, River of Life Eastlea. They further expanded their reach by establishing River of Life Westgate in a peri-urban area. In 2004, the Smyths embarked on a new chapter in Johannesburg. Scott Marques took the helm as Lead Elder at River of Life Eastlea. Marques led the church except for a brief period dedicated to establishing a church and business in Nampula, Mozambique. In 2015, River of life Church Eastlea merged with Greystone Park Church. This merger resulted in the multi-site River of life Church we see today, boasting five Sunday services across two locations: Eastlea and Greystone Park. The River of life Church now holds services at two locations, Eastlea and Greystone Park, with five services each Sunday. The Eastlea site holds services at 8:30 am, 10:30 am, and 12:30 pm. The Greystone Park site has services at 8:30 am and 12:30 pm. River of Life Church stands as a testament to growth and community, extending its influence within Zimbabwe and beyond.
