River Oaks Baptist Church began on May 22, 1950. A group gathered in a home. They discussed the need for a Baptist church nearby. By June 6, 1950, they held their first service. It took place at the River Oaks Garden Center. Fifty-eight members attended.
For three years, the congregation met in different places. They worked hard. They prayed even harder. Finally, on December 13, 1953, they moved here. This is the permanent location of River Oaks Baptist Church at 2300 Willowick Rd.

River Oaks Baptist Church established River Oaks Baptist School in 1955. It began as a preschool and kindergarten. It had two teachers and thirty students. The school expanded. It added Lower School and Middle School. By 1980, the school had 527 students. The school remains next to River Oaks Baptist Church. The River Oaks Baptist School incorporates Christian faith into its curriculum.
From humble beginnings, River Oaks Baptist Church has grown. It is a Christ-centered community. It serves generations of Houston families.
