“Wow, this building is huge!” Situated in the heart of Houston, River Oaks Baptist Church has been a landmark since its completion in 1953. It’s not just a place of worship but a beacon of faith and community for generations. River Oaks Baptist Church was built from a vision. A group of devoted Christians desired to spread the word of Christ in their community. Their first gathering was in May 1950, in a private home. The first official service of this new congregation took place on June 6, 1950, at the River Oaks Garden Center and Forum of Civics. Fifty-eight members attended that first service. For three years, the congregation moved from place to place, holding services wherever they could. Their dedication and prayers were finally rewarded when their permanent home here on Willowick Road was completed. The church has always been committed to serving the community. River Oaks Baptist Church has been a cornerstone of the community. It has nurtured the faith and fostered a sense of belonging in its congregation. The church’s commitment to spiritual growth and outward ministry is evident in everything it does. When you step inside, you can feel the presence of its rich history and the warmth of its welcoming embrace.
