Perched atop a prominent hillside, the RIMAC Annex at UC San Diego offers breathtaking views. It’s a modern marvel along the historic “Ridge Walk”. This walkway traces the path of old Highway 101, which once crossed this very land before the university existed. The RIMAC Annex isn’t just a building. The eastern side of the RIMAC Annex has a more sculptural design, reflecting the interior layout. It serves as a backdrop to the campus softball field, also part of the project. Inside, the RIMAC Annex houses a variety of spaces. On the main level, you’ll find an upscale café, a convenient campus store, and a comfortable lounge. The lower level houses a well-equipped conference center, perfect for meetings and events. The upper level offers additional dining and lounge space. All levels share a connection to the outdoors. The design encourages visitors to enjoy the stunning views of the foothills and the Pacific Ocean. Did you know the RIMAC Annex was funded by student recreational fees? This sparked a debate on campus. Some argued that the funds should have been used for recreational facilities, not retail and dining spaces. However, others saw the Annex as a vital social hub for the north campus, which is quite a distance from other central gathering areas. The RIMAC Annex officially opened its doors in September 2009.
