Arcola residents liked the location. The school’s name honors local history. It references the Blue Ridge Oil Field. It also references the Buffalo Bayou, Brazos and Colorado Railway reaching Stafford’s Point in 1853. Ridge Point High School is one of two high schools in the district not named after a person.

The Academic Decathlon team has produced six individual state champions. They placed in the top 25 in Texas three times. The school also produced the World Scholar’s Cup global round champions in 2019. The competition was in The Hague, Netherlands.
