This grand structure, with its hand-formed red-clay bricks and neoclassical design, began its life in 1911 as something quite different: the Fulton County almshouse. Imagine, if you will, a cold January day in 1911. Seventy-three souls, men and women who had fallen on hard times, walked through these very doors. The Richard C Gresham Chapel, then known simply as the Gresham Building, offered them shelter and care. It was a place of last resort for some, a temporary haven for others. This building has seen it all: hardship, resilience, and the quiet dignity of those who called it home. Over the years, the Richard C Gresham Chapel transitioned from a place of charity to one of education. The echoes of laughter and learning replaced the quiet murmurings of its former residents. Yet, the spirit of compassion and care remains, woven into the very fabric of this historic place.
