Ever wondered where you can find the world’s largest digital clock? It’s right here on the Rhine Tower. This concrete telecommunications tower rises 240.5 meters into the Düsseldorf sky. We call it the Rheinturm.

The Rhine Tower is more than just a tower. It’s a symbol of Düsseldorf. Construction began in 1979 and finished in 1981. Since then, it has broadcast radio, FM and TV signals across the region.

Look up and you’ll see the light sculpture. Horst H. Baumann designed this unique clock. It’s called Lichtzeitpegel meaning light time level. The clock displays the time using a series of lights. The top section shows the hour. The middle section displays the minutes. And the bottom level counts the seconds.

The Rhine Tower contains 7500 cubic meters of concrete. It weighs 22500 tons. An aerial antenna was added in 2004. This increased the tower’s height from 234.2 meters.

The Rhine Tower is the tallest building in Düsseldorf. But it offers more than just height. A revolving restaurant sits near the top. An observation deck also provides stunning views. You can see the entire city from up here.

From the Rhine Tower’s observation deck, you’ll spot the Media Harbour. You can also see the state parliament. The meandering Rhine River looks impressive from above. The observation deck is open daily. It welcomes visitors from 10:00 to 23:30.

The Rhine Tower isn’t just for utility. It’s also for recreation. Locals and tourists come to enjoy the views. They also dine in the revolving restaurant. The Rhine Tower provides coverage for radio and television signals. At the same time, it offers a unique experience. Its bright neon lights are visible across the area during the evenings.

While not the tallest in Europe, the Rhine Tower stands out. Its massive clock makes it special. It is a show spire. It is also a functional structure. The Rheinturm is a point of orientation.
