This Republic F-47N Thunderbolt was constructed as a P-47N-25-RE by Republic in Farmindale, New York. That was around 1944. It was then taken into service with the United States Army Air Force. Its serial number was 44-89348.

In 1948, it was redesignated as F-47N. By September 1948, the Republic F-47N Thunderbolt was transferred to the 49th FS, 14th FG. This was part of the Air Defense Command at Dow Field, Bangor, ME. However, its flying days were cut short when it crashed on September 24, 1948.

After its crash, this Republic F-47N Thunderbolt went to the National Museum of the United States Air Force Loan Program. It was stationed at Wright Field in Dayton, OH. At some point, it received markings that read 42-26418. Later, this Republic F-47N Thunderbolt was moved to the 37th Training Wing HQ Parade Ground. This was at Kelly Field which was formerly Kelly AFB in San Antonio, TX.

The Republic F-47N Thunderbolt was loaned to 37 TRW/MU at Lackland AFB, TX. This happened on October 14, 1978. It remained there until October 10, 1982. In November 2000, it was moved to the Airmen Heritage Training Complex. This was also at Kelly Field, formerly Kelly AFB, in San Antonio, TX.
