For a long time Renda Kökü was known as a haunted house. This was due to its long period of abandonment. Situated between the US and German embassies the mansion stood empty. The Turkish Red Crescent eventually owned the property.
However in 2004 it was put up for rent. Then in 2007 a significant change occurred. A collaborative effort between the Çankaya Municipality Middle East Technical University and the Red Crescent. The restoration began. Architects Celal Abdi Güzer and Lale Özgenel led the project.
Their vision transformed Renda Kökü into a cultural center. The renovation preserved its historical character while adapting it for contemporary use.
