Picture this a quaint village nestled in the heart of Lower Saxony. This is Reinstorf a place steeped in history and charm. Reinstorf boasts a history stretching back nearly 900 years. A papal document from September 27 1124 mentions Reinstorf and its St Vitus Church. This confirms the ownership of the Rastede monastery in Oldenburg. Reinstorf wasn’t just a church and a village. Until the 1960s it served as a central hub for surrounding communities. It had a school a doctor three inns and many craft businesses. All these villages belonged to the Reinstorf parish.

Times changed though. Around the year 2000 Reinstorf’s character shifted. Several farms closed down. The school two of the three pubs the shops the bank and the post office vanished. Yet Reinstorf persevered. The St Vitus Church remains a focal point. So does the church’s parish hall the St Vitus Generationenhaus. The Hubertus Reinstorf shooting club also remains active. They maintain a large clubhouse and a shooting range. The volunteer fire department and the sports club remain important social centers. The Wirtschaftskreis Reinstorf association works hard to revitalize the local economy. They organize events and promote local businesses including the surviving craft shops and restaurants.

Reinstorf adapted to modern times. In the 1980s the village introduced street names and a new house numbering system. A new housing area with sixteen houses was built in 2003. Road construction and sewer renovations were completed in 2013. This was just in time for Reinstorf’s 888th anniversary celebration.

Reinstorf’s history isn’t just confined to its buildings. Several prehistoric burial sites are found within the municipal area. The Großsteingrab Reinstorf lies south of the B 216 road. Other sites such as the Großsteingrab Holzen and the Hünengräber bei Horndorf reveal a rich past. Reinstorf’s story is one of resilience transformation and a connection to its rich past. A place where history whispers on the wind and the future unfolds with each passing year. Today Reinstorf continues to evolve and thrive. It welcomes visitors to experience its unique blend of history charm and community spirit. You can feel this spirit today here in Reinstorf.
