In 1948 a leading evangelist John Ridley and a godly contractor founded Ambassadors for Christ International. They were deeply concerned about the need for biblical preaching to build up Australian churches and penetrate Australia’s secular society. They aimed for true revival and effective evangelism. They formed the Australian Institute of Evangelism to train young men and women.
The Reigning Ambassador’s Church International is a testament to this early vision. As believers from other countries came to Australia for training the vision spread globally. The organization’s name changed to Ambassadors for Christ International reflecting its international expansion. Training local pastors became central to their mission. This remains their focus today. Over the years numerous International Directors led AFCI. Les Werry served from 1960 to 1975. Ian North followed from 1975 to 1991. Then Allan Gardner from 1991 to 2002.
