“And he moved from there and dug another well.” This biblical verse from Genesis is not just a saying. It is the cornerstone of the Rehoboth Christian Church’s identity.
The Rehoboth Christian Church has a compelling story. It began in March 1944 with Sister Efigenia Vargas. Guided by prayer, she and other brethren met in homes. They sought a place for a formal church.
After prayer, the Rehoboth Christian Church was established. It was located on the corner of Lexington Avenue and E. 118th Street. Sister Vargas chose the name Rehoboth from Genesis 26:22. The small mission church was named “Misión Cristiana Rehoboth”.
That small church grew spiritually and financially. A larger space became necessary. Led by Pastors Rafael and Eligia Hernandez, they decided to build a Temple. In 1951, the new Temple “Misión Cristiana Rehoboth” was inaugurated at 164 E 118th Street.
By 1965, six more churches had been established. They became the “Rehoboth Council of Christian Churches”. The promise that “we shall be fruitful in the land” had been fulfilled.
The original “well” expanded beyond New York City. Churches were planted in other states. These included California, Florida, New Jersey, Utah, and Puerto Rico. The Rehoboth Christian Church also reached international lands. Churches were established in Cuba, Dominican Republic, Brazil, and many more countries.
Today, the Rehoboth Christian Church stands as a beacon of hope. It lights the way to Christ for the community. The church offers bilingual services that last about 90 minutes. There is heartfelt worship and relevant messages. Children can attend age-appropriate Bible classes. Classes are also available for young adults.
The Rehoboth Christian Church provides various programs. These include a Food Pantry and a Bible Institute. They also offer Home and Hospital visits. The church organizes Family Trips and Community Outreach.
The Rehoboth Council of Christian Churches is multicultural. Its goal is to lift up life-giving water. It aims to provide hope, truth, and purpose. It wants every individual to live a God-first life.
The Rehoboth Christian Church is committed to fostering a family. It restores individuals and prepares believers. It sends ministers to raise up hope. All are welcome at Rehoboth Church. There is always a seat for you. You are accepted as part of the Rehoboth family. Here you have a place to belong.
