Why are we staring at a giant wall of bicycle reflectors? You might ask yourself that here at the Reflexionswand Installation. This isn’t just any wall. The Reflexionswand Installation, created by artist Olaf Metzel, stands right here in front of the Landesfeuerwehrschule in Münster. It’s made entirely of those yellow reflectors you see on bicycle wheels all over this bike-loving city. Metzel chose them specifically because they’re everywhere in Münster. He positioned the Reflexionswand Installation to face oncoming traffic on one of Münster’s busiest roads. It’s meant to look like a giant billboard or even a drive-in movie screen. As you watch the light play across the reflectors, think about their purpose. They’re designed to catch the light, to make sure cyclists are visible and safe. This play of light changes throughout the day, creating an ever-shifting spectacle.
