Gazing up at this vibrant splash of color, you’re standing before the README! Mural. It’s a striking piece of urban art by GOLDEN GREEN, also known as Moritz Green. The README! Mural isn’t just a random burst of color. It’s a visual conversation, a dialogue between art and architecture, located on Mittelstraße 44 in Mannheim. This mural was created in 2023 as part of the Stadt.Wand.Kunst project. This initiative aims to transform Mannheim’s urban landscape into a free, open-air art gallery. GOLDEN GREEN, a Hamburg-based artist, jumped at the chance to paint this unique façade. The challenge of working with a bordered surface, especially one wrapping around a building’s corner, excited him. His background as a graphic artist, combined with his years in the graffiti scene, shaped his vision for README!. The mural itself is an explosion of pinks, oranges, and turquoises against a stark black. Look closely. The black areas, resembling a stamp’s negative, form abstract letters. These aren’t just random shapes. They subtly reference the library located on the building’s first floor. GOLDEN GREEN intended these letters to connect graffiti with literature. Both, he suggests, demand recognition and interpretation, much like a reader deciphering a book. After five days of meticulous work, using both spray cans and paint, GOLDEN GREEN completed README!. His work marked the end of Mannheim’s 2023 mural season, a season that brought new works by artists like JENS RICHTER, PERKUP, and HERA to the city’s streets. The README! Mural stands as a testament to the power of street art. It transforms a simple building into a canvas, injecting vibrant energy into the heart of Mannheim.
