In the heart of Zehlendorf, a stately building stands as a testament to a rich past. This is Rathaus Zehlendorf. It’s more than just bricks and mortar. It’s a symbol of the community’s resilience. Rathaus Zehlendorf officially opened its doors on April 20, 1929. The building showcases a unique blend of architectural styles. Reform architecture and Neoclassicism intertwine. This design resulted from a competition in 1925. Architect Eduard Jobst Siedler won with his vision. He captured the spirit of contemporary design. His design also respected the existing neighborhood aesthetic. Rathaus Zehlendorf was built to serve as the town hall for the then-district of Zehlendorf. Zehlendorf became part of Greater Berlin in 1920. The building stands on Teltower Damm. Interestingly, there were plans to expand Rathaus Zehlendorf. A winning design from a 2021 competition proposed additions. These included a library, restaurants, a music school, and an adult education center. However, the future of these ambitious plans remains uncertain.
