Journey back to 788. The earliest record of Ainring appears. The Notitia Arnonis, a Salzburg register of properties, lists Ainring as “Ainheringa”. Rathaus Ainring stands today as a symbol of the town’s enduring history. Rathaus Ainring reflects Ainring’s rich past. Ainring remained under the rule of the Archbishopric of Salzburg until 1816. Rathaus Ainring represents the town’s administration. Before 1816, the town was never Austrian, but rather, part of Salzburg for over a millennium. The town of Ainring grew significantly with the construction of an airfield in 1933. This airfield served as the Reichenhall-Berchtesgaden Airport. It primarily facilitated flights for the NS-government to the Reich Chancellery in Berchtesgaden. This airfield also housed a center for aviation research, where advancements in aerospace technology were made. After World War II, the former airport buildings housed displaced persons. This area later evolved into Mitterfelden, which is now the largest district in Ainring. Rathaus Ainring serves the administrative needs of this vibrant community. The town’s largest company, the Annahütte steelworks, traces its origins back to 1537. It’s believed to be the oldest still-operating ironworks in Europe. Now part of the Max Aicher Group, Annahütte employs over 400 people and produces specialized steel for the global market. Rathaus Ainring stands amidst this history of innovation and growth. The Ainringer Moos, nestled between Ainring and Thundorf, holds a special place in the community’s heart. Located near the old Roman salt road at the foot of the Högl, it was renatured in 2003. Today, it provides a haven for rare plant and animal species. Rathaus Ainring embodies the town’s commitment to preserving its natural and historical treasures.
