A dazzling array of shimmering bottles greets you. Welcome to Randyland a unique art installation in Echo Park Los Angeles. Randyland is the brainchild of Randlett King Lawrence. He began this project in 2000 inspired by the way light refracted through a teardrop-shaped vase.

Randy’s creation is a massive monument to beauty. It captures the sun’s light. The installation is called Phantasma Gloria. It’s a 50-foot-wide wall of water-filled bottles. The bottles are various shapes and sizes. Some are colored. Some hold colored water. The light plays on the bottles creating a mesmerizing effect.

Randy’s background is fascinating. He works in Hollywood set design. Films like Blow Child’s Play and Fire Starter feature his work. His day job helps fund his art. He welcomes donations via Venmo.

The centerpiece is a Virgin of Guadalupe. This is a significant figure in Los Angeles. Surrounding the Virgin are other figures. There are dancers. There are hearts. There are spirals and crescents. The art is always changing. Randy updates it every year.

The best time to visit is in the morning around 10 am. That’s when the sun’s light interacts most beautifully with the bottles. The bottles themselves come from various sources. Some were blown by Randy himself. Others came from Ikea.

Randy encourages visitors to share their interpretations of the art. He’s passionate about his work. He loves the positive reactions he receives. Randy gives tours by appointment. You can learn about his process and artistic inspiration. But even from the street Randyland is breathtaking. It’s a true Los Angeles gem a testament to creativity and artistic vision.
