Here stands Radha Soami Satsang Beas. It offers spiritual solace to many. This Radha Soami location is in Bhati Mines New Delhi. It is near the Chhatarpur Mandir. It is about 8 km away from Dera Byas Baba Jaimal Singh.
Radha Soami means mastery of spiritual energy. The tradition traces back to Shiv Dayal Singh. He was born in 1818 in Agra. People called him Soamiji Maharaj honorifically.
Shiv Dayal Singh was influenced by Tulsi Sahib. Tulsi Sahib taught surat shabd yoga. This means union of the soul with divine inner sound. He also taught guru bhakti and high moral living. This included a lacto-vegetarian diet.
The Radha Soami movement does not promote celibacy. Most masters in its lineages have been married. The teachings relate to esoteric mysticism. These teachings circulated in northern India in the 18th and 19th centuries.
The movement’s founding date is 1861. Shiv Dayal Singh began giving discourses publicly then. After Shiv Dayal Singh’s death in 1878 several disciples succeeded him. These included his wife Narayan Dei and his brother Partap Singh. Also Sanmukh Das Jaimal Singh Gharib Das and Rai Salig Ram. Each started their own distinct centers.
These disciples’ deaths led to more masters and satsangs. Followers regarded them as true manifestations of Shiv Dayal Singh. They described his teachings as Sant Mat or the path of the saints. The largest branch is at Beas. Jaimal Singh established it in Punjab in the 1890s.
The Beas branch has grown enormously. Sawan Singh Jagat Singh and Charan Singh guided it. The current master is Gurinder Singh. There are about two million Beas initiates worldwide.
Other Radhasoami-related groups have gained followings. These include Ruhani Satsang in Delhi. Kirpal Singh a disciple of Sawan Singh founded it. Also Manavta Mandir which Faqir Chand established.
