Remember the Pilgrims crossing the Atlantic? Their spirit lives on here at Quincy Point Congregation Church. The original congregation gathered in 1838. They met near the Fore River Shipyard and the sea. Imagine those early worshippers, their lives intertwined with the maritime world.

Quincy Point Congregation Church has a unique history. In 1948 the congregation made a bold decision. They voted to move the entire church building. This was no small feat. The church was moved one-half mile down the road to its current location at 444 Washington Street. Can you picture that procession? A whole church on the move.

The church’s logo features a ship in full sail. This symbolizes the maritime journeys of its founders. These pilgrims sought to establish a community of faith. They valued freedom and equality. Their convictions shaped the American Patriot Spirit.

Essential to the “Congregational Way” was the belief that everyone should have access to the Holy Scriptures. The ability to read was crucial. Schools, libraries, and universities were established to support this belief. Religion was a matter of both the head and the heart. Education liberated the human spirit. This passion for education remains a hallmark of the faith tradition at Quincy Point Congregation Church.

Quincy Point Congregation Church belongs to the United Church of Christ. The motto of the United Church of Christ is from the Gospel of John. It says “That They May All Be One”. This reflects the church’s commitment to unity and inclusivity.

Inside the sanctuary the words of the Beatitudes are inscribed in the original stained-glass windows. Stained-glass saints, prophets, and apostles surround worshippers. Among them is St. Andrew the “Fisherman Saint”. Francis teaches respect and care for God’s creation.

Quincy Point Congregational Church celebrates the global church family. People from China, Sierra Leone, Scotland, the Philippines, and India have all found a home here. This church actively supports missions and social justice.

The Missions and Social Justice Committee organizes the collection of groceries for Thanksgiving. These items are donated to Interfaith Social Services. They also gather Christmas gifts for local families in need. Throughout the year the committee provides opportunities to donate goods and time. They support many organizations. These include Interfaith Social Services and Habitat for Humanity.

The church’s newest mission is Laundry Love. This began in October 2021. It provides clean clothes for those in need. Quincy Point Congregation Church is more than just a building. It is a community of seekers and servants. It is a place where faith and action come together. Remember the church’s journey as you leave here today. Think about its commitment to faith, education, and social justice.
