Once, Quibble Island wasn’t an island at all. It was a network of inter-tidal channels. Now, it stands as a river island in Chennai. This unique place is formed by the Adyar River and one of its tributaries.

During British rule, Quibble Island took on a different character. A European cemetery was located here. This detail adds a layer of history and somber reflection to the island. Famous actor J. P. Chandrababu was buried here too. His grave is a landmark.
In 1796, James Brodie received a grant of land. Brodie was a British civil servant and businessman. He got 11 acres on Quibble Island. He then built Brodie Castle. By 1798, Quibble Island was shown as having two properties. However, in 1816, it was marked blank in a survey.
