Opened in 2010, Queens Metropolitan High School stands as a testament to the community’s commitment to education. Queens Metropolitan High School, or “Queens Metro” as the students affectionately call it, serves a diverse student body of over 1,000 students. Queens Metropolitan High School is located on Metropolitan Avenue, nestled within the Metropolitan Avenue Educational Campus. This modern campus boasts state-of-the-art facilities, including Smart Boards in every classroom, science labs, music rooms, a well-equipped library, and two gyms. Queens Metropolitan High School shares the campus with Metropolitan Expeditionary Learning School. Each school maintains its own dedicated facilities, but they share the large auditorium. The location of Queens Metropolitan High School was strategically chosen to alleviate overcrowding in nearby schools, particularly Forest Hills High School. The campus was built on a former industrial superblock, between two branches of the Long Island Rail Road. The original plans for the campus envisioned accommodating two primary or middle schools and two 500-seat high schools, adding over 2,000 public school seats. Queens Metropolitan High School’s mission is college preparation. The curriculum emphasizes rigorous academics. Students are encouraged to think critically, write effectively, and apply their knowledge to real-world situations. The school boasts a structured four-year college advisory program, starting in 9th grade with weekly classes on college prep. All students participate in at least one college visit each year. In 2014, Queens Metropolitan High School proudly achieved an 89% four-year graduation rate. The school has received accolades, including a 2018 silver medal from US News, recognizing its strong performance on state-required tests and college preparation. Niche.com also ranks Queens Metropolitan High School highly, praising its diverse student body and excellent teachers.
