The Quarry Ballfields in the Bronx hold more than just games. They hold a story of renewal and remembrance. Originally a quarry. It operated for decades. Leaving behind a scarred landscape. A transformation began. Years of operation. The land changed hands multiple times. From James Sowerbutt to the Vandermade family then Warren Brothers Inc. Finally Tilcon took ownership. The quarry closed. Its history etched into the very earth.
But the story doesn’t end there. In 1998 the ballfields underwent extensive renovations. A comfort station was added. This improved the experience for players and visitors alike. The fields became a vital part of the community. Providing a space for recreation and togetherness.
Then came another chapter. In 2023 the PitCCh In Foundation stepped in. A nonprofit co-founded by CC Sabathia. They spearheaded a complete renovation of one diamond. A dedication to Lesandro Guzman-Feliz. His tragic loss in 2018 spurred this act of community healing. The new diamond a symbol of hope and resilience.
