“Titan” echoes in your mind. That’s the name of a legendary loudspeaker. We’re standing before Quadral GmbH here in Hanover. This is the home of that iconic sound.

Quadral is more than just a name. It is a legacy of German audio engineering. Founded in 1972 in Hanover, Quadral emerged from the company all-Akustik. The founders were Hans-Dieter Hoffmann, Helmut Pabel, Horst Enders and Friedel Hofmann.

Initially, all-Akustik distributed electronics. They handled brands like Luxman and Sansui Electric. They also distributed Fujifilm, Citizen, and Micro Seiki. By 1973, they were ready for their own loudspeaker brand. Thus, Quadral was born. The name “Quadral” blends “Quadrofonie” and “all-Akustik”.

In the late 70’s Quadral launched its first speaker series “aq”. These speakers featured built-in equalizers. This allowed listeners to customize sound. Quadral constantly innovates. They strive to give the best sound.

Then came 1981 and the Titan I. Helmut Schaper developed it. It became a reference model in Stereoplay for over eight years. The Titan I was as big as a telephone booth. Initially, only two pairs were made. It was meant as a study. Quadral wanted to show how accurately music could be reproduced.

The Titan used a ribbon tweeter. Even today Quadral uses ribbon tweeters. These are made in their own workshop. The speaker impressed Stereoplay magazine so much. For twenty years Titan became their reference loudspeaker. Orders poured in and Quadral began manufacturing them. The Titan has evolved through nine generations.

Quadral also produces the Aurum series. These are high-end speakers and electronics. These are for those seeking the ultimate listening experience.

In the 1990s, Quadral expanded. They ventured into car audio and multimedia. By 1992, all sales were under the Quadral name. all-Akustik remained the parent company.

The company faced challenges. Electronic superstores grew. Fuji also reclaimed its distribution rights. But Quadral adapted and innovated.

In 2009, a new generation took over. They revitalized the company. They focused on new products. In 2011, Quadral launched its Aurum electronics series. Sascha Reckert, an experienced sound engineer, became chief developer.

Quadral uses custom-designed speaker drivers. These feature special ALTIMA membranes. These membranes are made of aluminum, titanium, and magnesium. Ribbon tweeters and magnetostats are also a Quadral tradition.

In 2020, Loxone, an Austrian company, acquired Quadral. Loxone specializes in smart home automation. This partnership promises new opportunities.

Today, Quadral continues to create speakers. They range from affordable to high-end. Each speaker embodies Quadral’s commitment. They are committed to quality and innovation.

As we stand here, consider the journey of Quadral. From a distributor to a renowned manufacturer. They are known for their groundbreaking Titan speaker. Quadral remains dedicated to delivering exceptional sound.
