Pungnaptoseong’s history stretches back to the Baekje kingdom. Some believe it was Hanam Wiryeseong the kingdom’s first capital. Its oval shape stretches north to south. It leans slightly east. Originally its circumference was four kilometers. Flooding in 1925 tragically destroyed much of it. Only 2.7 kilometers remain today.

The inner wall is mainly sandy soil grit clayish and muddy soil. Pebbles and trimmed stones were layered on top. The base is seven meters wide and five meters high.
