Fifty years of fabulousness. That’s what we celebrate here at the Pulverfass Travestie Cabaret. Right here on the Reeperbahn, in the heart of St. Pauli, stands a Hamburg institution. The Pulverfass Cabaret. In 1973, Heinz-Diego Leers took over a striptease club from his father in St. Georg. He planned to turn it into a disco. But the opening night had a surprise in store. The travestie artists stole the show. Leers quickly changed his plans and embraced the art of travesty. This decision launched the Pulverfass into Hamburg’s nightlife scene. In 2001, the Pulverfass moved to St. Pauli. It became the largest travesty theater in Europe. It showcased original travesty shows, comedy, and strip shows. Even men-strip shows. Stars like Mary & Gordy and Olivia Jones started their careers right here. Celebrities like James Last, Udo Lindenberg, and even Verona Pooth graced the Pulverfass with their presence. The Pulverfass Cabaret is more than just a theater. It’s a piece of Hamburg’s entertainment history. After Leers’ passing, Maximilian Protsch and Hendrik Kupfernagel took over in 2021. They renovated the theater and brought in new artistic talent. Today, the Pulverfass offers a variety of shows, from travesty and variety to comedy and burlesque. “PULVERLESQUE by Eve Champagne”, hosted by the “Rockstar of Burlesque” herself, is a must-see. The Pulverfass continues to evolve, staying true to its motto: “Im Pulverfass da tut sich was!” Something is always happening at the Pulverfass.
