Established in 1889 in Guangzhou Pui Ching Middle School in Macau has a rich history. Its Macau campus opened in 1938. This was during the Sino-Japanese War. Teachers and students from Guangzhou fled to Macau for safety. They continued their education in this temporary refuge. The Macau school became a vital lifeline for Pui Ching.

The school initially operated as a primary school. It later expanded to include junior and senior high school levels in 1947 and 1953 respectively. Pui Ching Middle School Macau became an independent non-profit private school in 1950. It maintained its strong ties with its sister schools in Guangzhou and Hong Kong.

For a time Pui Ching rented Lou’s Garden. This later became Lou Lim Ieoc Garden. The school used this as its campus from 1938 to 1952. In 1949 four new classrooms were added to celebrate its tenth anniversary. In 1952 parents purchased a significant portion of Lou’s Garden. This ensured the school had a permanent home.

Subsequent expansion was fueled by donations. Two businessmen provided funds for improvements in Lou Lim Garden. They constructed new classrooms an expanded stadium and purchased equipment. A new school was also established on Horta e Costa street.

Through the years Pui Ching has seen many changes in leadership. Each president contributed to the school’s development. They focused on improving teaching environments and fostering a strong ethical climate. They introduced teacher training programs and exchanges with other regions. The curriculum also evolved modernizing its approach.

Today Pui Ching Middle School stands as a testament to resilience. Its long history and commitment to education are evident. It continues to thrive providing a quality education for generations of students. Its story is a tribute to the dedication of its teachers and the perseverance of its students.
