Founded in 1955 by the Sisters of Providence Providence High School stands proudly before you. Its story begins not in a grand building but in circus tents. Construction delays meant the first 81 girls started classes under canvas. Can you imagine learning algebra under a big top? Nearby Walt Disney provided the tents a truly unique start for this school.
Providence High School wasn’t always co-educational. Initially a girls’ school it opened its doors to boys in 1974. This change reflected broader societal shifts but also a need for survival. Enrollment had dipped dangerously low in the 1970s. The Sisters of Providence even considered closing the school. However thanks to the dedication of Sister Lucille Dean and the community the school not only survived but thrived.
