“When we die out, where will the church be?” That question fuels Providence Church of Houston’s mission today. Founded in 1990 by Rev. Willie Ted Glynn, Providence Church sought to spread God’s word.
In 1991, Pastor Jerry Wade, Sr. took the helm. Providence moved to its current location in June 1991. Pastor Wade established a youth ministry. It became a catalyst for significant growth. The initial 12 charter members grew to over 150.
Providence Church underwent renovations in 1998. Growth continued and more ministries were added. In 2007, they built the current sanctuary. It stands adjacent to the original building. The former sanctuary was then renovated into a fellowship hall. It also houses classroom space.
Pastor Jerry Wade, Sr. married Loretta Wade in 1978. They have four children and four grandchildren. Pastor Wade answered his calling in 1978 at Mt. Horeb Missionary Baptist Church. He served under Dr. Samuel H. Smith.
Providence Church is blessed by Pastor Wade’s leadership. His preaching and singing abilities are world-renowned. He has overseen two building renovations.
Providence Church is expanding its vision. It jumpstarts all ministries and upgrades media capabilities. A portable stage is being built for the Outreach Ministry. This allows the church to share worship in Houston neighborhoods. The fellowship hall was recently renovated. It now includes “Holy Grounds,” a coffee bar and “The 411 @ 111,” a bookstore.
The mission of Providence Church is the “Great Commission”. They aim to broaden the reach of God’s Word. This extends to the community, city, state, nation, and beyond. Reaching young people is a major concern. The church wants to reach the unchurched and unsaved youth.
Each Sunday, people gather to worship at 8 a.m. at Providence Church. Come join them. Feel welcome in this loving and safe space. Calm your soul in the Lord’s presence. Connect with people who love God and God’s people. Sing and praise God for sustaining you throughout the week. Providence Church’s story has just begun and you can be a part of it.
