Originally known as Franz Psychology Tower, Pritzker Hall is the easternmost wing of UCLA’s psychology department complex. It is one of the first major projects planned during the university’s early development. Completed in 1967, Pritzker Hall reflects a shift in architectural style. It moved from the International Style to the monumental architecture of the 1960s.
Fast forward to 2020. The Anthony and Jeanne Pritzker Family Foundation made a generous commitment. Their 30 million dollar gift funded a complete renovation and tower upgrade. In recognition of this gift, the building was renamed Pritzker Hall. The Psychology Undergraduate program calls Pritzker Hall home. It is one of the largest programs at the university.
CO Architects undertook the task of modernizing this iconic structure. They extended the life of this mid-century classic. Ten new classrooms, two active learning studios, and two computer labs were added. A graduate student lounge and four conference rooms occupy the lower three levels. Upper floors feature light-filled offices for faculty members. The interior reconfiguration added new windows to each office. Amenities and social spaces are tucked into nooks throughout the building.
