Princess Sumaya University for Technology, often called PSUT, was established in 1991. Initially, it was known as Princess Sumaya University College for Technology. Back then, it only offered a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science.
In 2002, the Higher Educational Council granted it university status. It officially became Princess Sumaya University for Technology. Five years later, in 2007, the Ministry of Higher Education approved the university’s regulations. These regulations became a model for private universities across Jordan. That same year, the Business School was established at Princess Sumaya University for Technology.
Princess Sumaya bint El Hassan played a vital role in its founding. She recognized the Royal Scientific Society’s importance in academic knowledge transfer. The university emerged as a branch of the RSS. The Royal Scientific Society is a leading research center in Jordan. Princess Sumaya University for Technology is part of El Hassan Science City. The science city is located in Amman.
In 2012, Princess Sumaya University for Technology introduced two new programs. These were a Master’s in Entrepreneurship and a Bachelor’s in e-Marketing and Social Media. Then, in 2017, the MSc program in Data Science was created. PSUT became the first Jordanian university to offer this major.
Two more master’s programs arrived in 2022. One was in Financial Technology and Accounting Analytics. The other was in Supply Chain Management and Logistics Technology.
The King Hussein School for IT is a key part of Princess Sumaya University for Technology. It was established in 2005 to improve facilities and faculties. The school has four academic departments. These are Computer Science, Computer Graphics and Animation, Software Engineering, and Data Science. Cyber Security was established in 2022.
The King Hussein School for Information Technology offers various Bachelor of Science degrees. These include Computer Science, Computer Graphics and Animation, and Software Engineering. Further degrees include Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, and Cyber Security. Master of Science degrees are available in Computer Science, Data Science, and Cyber Security. Also offered are Enterprise Systems Engineering and Health Information Technology plus a PhD in Computer Science.
Since its start, Princess Sumaya University for Technology has graduated over 1,200 students with BS degrees in Computer Science. PSUT is ranked 401-450 in the QS World University Ranking by Subject for Computer Science and Information Systems in 2022.
