In August 1952, three Presentation Sisters arrived in San Antonio, ready to plant new roots. Their arrival marked the beginning of a new chapter for the Presentation Sisters in Texas, a story deeply interwoven with Presentation Convent. Presentation Convent, a beacon of faith and education, stands as a testament to their dedication and hard work. The sisters quickly established themselves within the community, driven by their mission to serve the poor and needy. Their initial efforts culminated in the opening of the first Presentation School in Texas on September 5, 1955, at St. Gregory the Great School. This marked a significant milestone, extending the “Flame of Love” to countless children, their families, and friends. This legacy of education continued to burn brightly, shaping generations to come. In 2005, the Presentation Sisters further solidified their commitment to the community by establishing the Presentation Ministry Center. This center, a haven for immigrants, offers a variety of programs designed to empower and support newcomers. From English as a Second Language and computer literacy classes to childcare and community resource connections, the center addresses the holistic needs of its participants. This embodies the spirit of Venerable Nano Nagle, the founder of the Presentation Sisters, whose vision continues to inspire and guide the work at Presentation Convent and beyond. The plaque at St. Gregory the Great School beautifully summarizes Nano Nagle’s legacy and the enduring mission of the Presentation Sisters in San Antonio. Their commitment to education, care, and empowerment echoes Nagle’s vision, touching the lives of the vulnerable and underserved.
