Founded in 1891 Presentation BVM Parish stands proudly in Cheltenham Pennsylvania. Its history is rich with stories of faith resilience and community. Imagine a time of anti-Catholic sentiment. Burning crosses marred the parish grounds. “Anti-papist” literature was widely distributed. Yet the Presentation BVM community persevered. They established numerous societies. The Catholic Club the Junior Catholic Club and the Sodality thrived. These groups were the social heart of the parish.

The original church was modest. It couldn’t accommodate the growing congregation. In 1960 a new school opened. Four more classrooms were added. The old church was demolished. Masses were temporarily held in the school. Then in 1967 a magnificent new church was completed. It seated 1100 people. This magnificent structure served as a testament to the unwavering faith of the community.

The parish school flourished. By 1969 enrollment peaked at 800 students. This was the highest number ever. The school’s success is a testament to the dedication of its teachers. The principal and staff instilled Catholic ideals. They prepared students for high school. The school continues to thrive today boasting a stellar reputation among Catholic high schools.

Times changed. The population shifted. Many families moved away. The parish faced challenges. Membership declined. In 2000 Presentation BVM twinned with St Joseph Cheltenham. This partnership strengthened both parishes. They faced the challenges of declining membership and changing demographics together.

The Adoration Chapel opened in 2002. It provides space for daily Mass and adoration. This serves as a center for prayer and spiritual renewal. It is a testament to the parish’s enduring commitment to faith. The parish continues to adapt. It builds new community through prayer study and programs. It seeks to revitalize its social fabric.
