Founded in 1907 the Presbyterian Church of Saint Albans stands proudly. It began as weekly Bible study meetings led by local women. Back then Saint Albans was farmland a single general store serving the area. Families traveled by horse-drawn buggy to attend services. A great need existed for a local church.

Fundraising for the original building was innovative. Plays and revues performed in a decorated barn raised the necessary funds. A Brooklyn realtor James Nevins generously donated the land. Reverend William Hendrickson served as the first supply pastor. Two years later Reverend Frank Lee became the first permanent pastor.

The Presbyterian Church of Saint Albans has seen many dedicated leaders. Reverend Lee was succeeded by several pastors. Reverend Francis Wallace’s tenure from 1936 to 1956 was particularly significant. He oversaw the merger with Addisleigh United Presbyterian Church in 1937. He expanded community outreach and diversified the congregation.

Reverend L Charles Gray’s leadership from 1962 onward brought international recognition. He participated in the Christian Peace Conference in Guyana and the National Council of Churches. Many congregants were educators and entrepreneurs. The PCSA played a vital role in the community’s social and economic development. He was a gifted orator and patron of the arts. The current theatre space is dedicated to his memory.

Reverend Dr Edward Davis served as pastor from 1985 to 2021. He guided the church through challenging times. Many ministries flourished under his optimistic leadership. After his retirement Reverend Eric Toodles a longtime member became the interim pastor. His family has a long history of service to the church. He is building a strong foundation for the future.
