Established long ago the church first opened its doors in 1807. Early disagreements over the construction of a new building almost fractured the congregation. A minor dispute over lumber cost a mere $25 almost resulted in a permanent split. Thankfully the rift healed during a significant spiritual revival in the 1830s. The two factions reunited in 1854. They even cleverly repurposed one of the original buildings transforming it into a social hall. Today those buildings remain connected standing side by side a physical representation of reconciliation.
The 1970s brought another wave of spiritual renewal. Week-long tent revival meetings ignited a fervor for faith. These meetings while no longer held left a lasting legacy. In 2012 the church chose to leave the PCUSA. After careful consideration they joined the Evangelical Presbyterian Church. The congregation’s unity and remarkable speed in raising the necessary funds for the building purchase is noteworthy. The transition was seamless. In 2016 the Presbyterian Church of Bergen officially became an EPC church.
