Welcome to Acharya Prafulla Chandra College also known as APC College. It stands as a beacon of education in North 24 Paragana, West Bengal. Founded on August 16, 1960, the college began its journey as New Barrackpore College. It was the result of a joint effort by the State and Central Governments under the Dispersal Scheme.

Late Haripada Biswas was the founder secretary. His vision shaped the institution’s early years. The college was later renamed Acharya Prafulla Chandra College. This renaming honored Prafulla Chandra Ray. He was a Bengali chemist and is considered the father of Indian chemistry.

The establishment of Acharya Prafulla Chandra College has a deep historical context. Following India’s partition, many individuals migrated from East Pakistan to West Bengal. New Barrackpore became one of several refugee communities. The need for educational institutions grew. This college emerged to meet that demand.

Classes initially started in rented rooms at New Barrackpore Colony Boys’ High School. Only a few students were enrolled. Today, the college has grown significantly. It has become one of the best colleges in the district and the state.

Acharya Prafulla Chandra College aims to serve students from all backgrounds. Many are first-generation learners. The college strives to create a learner-centered environment. It balances tradition with experimentation. The goal is to provide value-based quality education. The college also promotes research and innovation. It encourages students to care for the environment. They should use cleaner technologies in their future careers.

Acharya Prafulla Chandra College is located on Sodepur Road. Its location near railway stations makes it accessible to students from distant areas. Bus routes also provide convenient access.

The college received a grant of Rs. 2 crore under the RUSA-2.0 Project in 2018. This funding supports the college’s development.

Acharya Prafulla Chandra College offers a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs. These cover both Science and Arts subjects. The college is recognized by NAAC and UGC. It has earned a Grade “A” rating from NAAC.

The college has many notable alumni. Sayantan Ghosal is one such example. He is an Indian Screenplay writer and Filmmaker.
